Curriculum that integrates liberal arts and instructional design

Our program curriculum provides a unique blend of liberal arts, technology and instructional design, allowing you to approach teaching and learning in more creative and innovative ways. You’ll graduate with an ePortfolio showcasing your best work, serving as a valuable tool to demonstrate your acquired expertise, skills, and knowledge to potential employers or academic institutions.

In-person program

Our students are driven to create meaningful change, and our location in Washington, DC, helps make that possible. As a student at Georgetown, you’ll become part of the Jesuit tradition of working to make the world a better place. Our program is one of the few in the U.S. that focuses on how to address the issues of equity, access and justice in the higher education landscape. Whether you want to effect change on local or international levels, our home in DC provides numerous opportunities and connections.

Online program

Our combined synchronous and asynchronous online instructional design program format brings the Georgetown experience to you, advancing your pursuit of academic and professional goals without sacrificing quality or convenience. The online program offers the same level of rigor and values as our on-campus classes by following the same curriculum path. Online students attend a week-long, immersive session in mid-August for LDES 5000, which includes campus networking opportunities; subsequent courses are accessible online for schedule flexibility.

Message from the director

Higher education faces many challenges and opportunities—the (post-) pandemic pedagogies, equity and access, artificial intelligence, value and cost, climate change, demographic shifts, digital technologies, curricular alignment with workforce needs, etc. All will require thoughtful, intentional, innovative approaches to teaching and learning.

To help address higher education’s emerging challenges, the staff at Georgetown University’s center for teaching excellence–Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS)–designed and developed the LDT program, which builds on the Center’s 20+ years of experience working with faculty and students on academic innovation. We’d love for you to join us as we imagine the future of higher education.
