Our Philosophy

Western Suffolk BOCES believes its highly qualified and dedicated employees form the foundation for helping students build successful lives. We hire employees in two basic categories:

Certified Employees

Our instructional and administrative staff are certified by the New York State Education Department. The type of certification required varies according to the position.

Civil Service Employees

Non-instructional staff such as our secretaries and several other positions are hired from the Suffolk County Civil Service lists. Other non-instructional staff such as our aides and custodians are in non-competitive Civil Service titles. Titles of positions depend on the job descriptions.

Fingerprinting

The NYS Education Department has established procedures for fingerprinting school employees. New hires at Western Suffolk BOCES must follow NYSED instructions before scheduling an appointment with the BOCES Personnel Office. Learn more about how to be fingerprinted.
